Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
“Compulsory Basic Training” is the first step towards getting your full bike licence. Everyone who wants to ride a moped or motorbike on the road must complete this day’s training. You will need a provisional licence before you can take your C.B.T. There are 5 elements that are covered in the day:

Safety Equipment

Introduction to the motorcycle and its controls

Riding the bike (on site)

Pre road briefing and safety talk

On road training and assessment
On completion of your C.B.T. you will, at the age of 16, be able to ride a 50cc bike on the road with ‘L’ Plates. If you are 17 or older you will be able to ride up to a 125cc motorbike with ‘L’ Plates fitted.
Theory Test

This must be completed before you can take your motorbike test.

Book it by calling 0300 200 1122.

Make sure you ask for a Motorbike Theory Test.

Try surrounding areas for an earlier test if need be.
Progressive Access (A2)

You must be at least 19 years old.

You will then be able to ride any bike you want as long as it is restricted to 47 BHP.

The course will be conducted on a 500cc bike

After 2 years of holding a A2 license you will be eligible to take the Direct Access test
Direct Access

DAS as it is often referred to will get you a full bike licence and allow you to ride any bike you want.

You must be 24 or over to take your Full Bike Licence or held an A2 license for 2 years

Test will be conducted on a 600cc bike

DAS full license will give you the ability to ride what you want
